Founder Gijs Bloemen, investor and wine collector, once inspired by a trip to the Piemonte region tasting Barolo for the first time.

“The passion for wine started during my studies Economics and Business Economics at the Utrecht University. During our yearly trip to Italy, we visited Barolo where I fell in love with this outstanding wine. The complexity of the wine, the possibilities of the Nebbiolo grape, and its exceptional ageing potential captured his interest and marked the beginning of his passion for wine.”

Five years later, with a growing collection and a deeper understanding of wine, Gijs realised the importance of proper storage. He noticed that wine fridges were not only expensive to purchase, but also costly to run in terms of electricity. This led to the idea that there must be a more efficient and scalable way to store wine under optimal conditions.

That insight became the foundation of Bottle Locker. A place where collectors can store their wines in a secure, climate-controlled environment, with professional care and modern technology. What started as a personal need has grown into a service designed for everyone who values their wine and wants to preserve it in the best possible way.
